About Telco Core Strategies Summit
Telcos have a unique set of requirements when it comes to the cloud. As communication service providers (CSPs) weigh migration of their key network functions - and sometimes even the network core itself - to the cloud, they need to fully understand the benefits and pitfalls of cloud migration before taking the leap. For instance, how can I get a grip on cloud migration and ongoing opex costs? How can I manage functions across multiple transport networks and clouds?
During this virtual event, industry experts will dig into short- and long-term opportunities and challenges and a variety of strategies.

REALIZING NETWORK POTENTIAL WITH 5G OPEN CORE
Communication Service Providers (CSPs) that deploy Standalone 5G on an open core enhance their competitiveness by increasing their agility and flexibility via increased network capabilities and slicing. The 5G Open Core is a cloud-native, service-based architecture where different network functions lend themselves to others thus allowing for smooth implementation and upgrades without disturbing existing functions. The 5G Open Core is said to be essential in deploying 5G Advanced Use Cases. However, to deliver on such promises, CSPs must first address challenges relating to security and interoperability. How does a service-based architecture impact security of the network, and how can this be overcome? What role will the system integrator play in ensuring CSPs deploy the best solution for them?
11:00 AM - 11:45 AM Panel Discussion | Moderator: Eugina Jordan, CMO, Telecom Infra Project (TIP) / Panelists: Dr. Venki Ramaswamy, Chief Technologist for NextG, MITRE Labs / James Joiner, Lead Analyst, GSMA Intelligence / Heather Kirksey, VP, Community & Ecosystem Development, Linux Foundation
11:45 AM - 12:00 PM Encore Keynote | Mark Rouanne, Chief Network Officer, EVP, DISH Network

DEFINING YOUR CLOUD CORE MIGRATION STRATEGY - FAIL TO PREPARE, PREPARE TO FAIL
The migration of the core network to the cloud has a variety of benefits to CSPs. Commonly cited motivations include the ability to easily launch new services, drive revenue growth and facilitate cost savings. Despite this, many CSPs are yet to fully embrace the power of core cloudification due to concerns relating to uncertain costs of migration and not being able to adequately form a migration plan. Many attempted cloud migration plans stall/fail due to the fact migrations were approached with insufficient planning. In addition to deciding on a specific migration method, CSPs must first address common concerns such as migration costs, skills gap and how to observe the ecosystem to make a success of their cloud core migration. Join this session as speakers discuss how some common concerns can be addressed and what are the best practices in order to make a success of cloud core migration.

OVERCOMING COMPLEXITIES BY AUTOMATING YOUR CLOUD CORE
Cloud core needs to be intelligently automated to support all its deployment scenarios and generate low-latency and support all use cases it will enable. Automation will harmonize complex processes and policies to improve consistency, scalability, and speed. However, automation is not always as straightforward as it may sound. The cloudification of core network functions add an additional layer of complexity to the network and CSPs must address common challenges to fully automate their cloud core. Join this session to fully understand why CSPs must automate their cloud core and explore common challenges such as coding and vendor lock-in and how these can be overcome.
2:00 PM - 2:15 PM Keynote | Speaker: Ameer Gaili, Analyst, Analysys Mason
2:15 PM - 3:00 PM Panel Discussion | Moderator: Roy Chua, Principal, Avid Think / Panelists: Ildiko Vancsa, Director of Community, Open Infrastructure Foundation / Ranny Haiby, CTO, Networking, Edge, & Access, Linux Foundation
